Water Damage Inspection

Kemptville Inspection & Remediation Services

Floods, leaks, condensation, humidity—these are all types of moisture problems that can cause costly damage to your property and compromise the structural soundness of your home.
However, if not addressed promptly, water damage can quickly become a very real health threat, fuelling the growth and proliferation of toxic black mold.

A water damage inspection is therefore critical for finding the source of the moisture, assessing the damage done and preventing future problems like mold growth.

Mold Busters is a local thermal imaging company that offers comprehensive infrared inspections of water-damaged homes and buildings in region of Ottawa and Montreal. We’ll help you detect moisture and assess water damage without doing any additional damage to your home such as cutting holes in your walls or removing carpet.
We’re fully certified and insured, so contact us today and book your infrared assessment!

Finding the cause of water damage

Determining exactly what caused the water damage can be difficult. No one wants to cut gaping holes in their walls just to check behind them for leaky pipes or water damage.

At Mold Busters, we offer 100% non-destructive water damage inspections that use infrared cameras to detect obvious and not-so-obvious moisture problems in your home. Often, our infrared inspections reveal that the water damage was caused by a construction, installation and maintenance issue, such as:

  • Roof damage (holes, gaps, cracks, broken seals)
  • Poorly sealed windows and doors
  • Cracks in the foundation
  • Burst or leaky pipes
  • Leaky faucets and appliances
  • Overflowing toilets
  • Blocked gutters and poor water drainage

Why infrared is the best way to find water damage

Not all moisture problems are easy to locate. Sometimes, the source of the water damage is obvious (e.g. an overflowing toilet); other times, it’s hidden (e,g, a pipe that’s leaking behind the wall).
In these situations, having a certified thermal imaging expert come in and inspect the area with an infrared camera can be extremely helpful.

These cameras measure and record thermal energy (heat) emitted by the objects captured in the frame. Wet or water-damaged materials stand out from the other objects because they don’t give off as much heat. This allows us to trace the path of the water back to the origin of the problem. The infrared approach is, therefore, the fastest and most cost-effective way to detecting water damage anywhere in your house.

The effects of moisture intrusion can be toxic—literally. Black mold can start to grow in a water-damaged home within as little as 24 hours of the water intrusion. If you notice signs of water damage (stains, black spots, discoloration, musty odours, wood rot, mold…), get your home inspected by a professional as soon as possible.

The Right Way to Handle a Flooded House

Handling a flooded house on your own can be a difficult, frustrating, time-consuming and costly task. Regardless, if and when you do find yourself face-to-face with such a task, you must act quick.

There are several reasons why taking quick action after a flood is important. First, a flood can cause severe structural damage to your home, which can be costly to repair and threaten your safety. Second, if the basement isn’t completely dried immediately after the flooding, the accumulated water can become stagnant and lead to colonies of mold and bacteria. Mold thrives in clogged water and damp places. After prolonged exposure, these micro-organisms can cause respiratory issues, various skin infections and a number of other health symptoms – the reason you need to take immediate action the moment you notice that water is building up in your basement.

Don’t forget to take the appropriate safety precautions before you begin to clean your basement. Make sure that no electric appliances or wires are in or near the water. Turn off the electrical supply before you begin to remove the water. This is important if you want to avoid electrical shock or other accidents.

Basements are often full of mold

After ensuring safety, there are certain tools you can use for water removal. Some of the most common tools are pumps, power sprays, drying fans and dehumidifiers. The only problems associated with some of these tools is that they can be costly, as well as require knowledge of how to use them properly. It’s possible to buy or rent some of these, but it’s more advisable to hire professional basement restoration and water removal contractors. This way, the job is bound to be done properly and safely.

Damage restoration contractors use specialized equipment to remove water and control its damage. While hiring a professional might seem like a big expense at first, it saves you from having to buy or rent your own equipment and from needing to learn to use it. In addition to removing water from your basement, the experts also use their high-end equipment to completely dry any remaining moisture and to remove any water-damaged materials such as carpets (which are common breeding spots for mold, mildew and bacteria).
